First of all, I want to thank everyone who has supported this campaign since it started back in March. None of this would have been possible without the generous donations of time, money, and advice I received from the community. I'm truly humbled by your support.
I also want to thank the voters who filled the circle next to my name. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get you the win that you deserved, but it was an honor to fight for it on your behalf.
This campaign was never about me--it was about giving the people of our district an actual choice for who represents them in the State Legislature. Gerrymandering has taken that choice away from us, for as long as anyone can remember. Thankfully, Proposal 2 passed! In a few years, we will be able to actually choose the politicians that represent us, rather than the politicians choosing their own voters. We didn't win tonight, but Democracy sure did.
I don't know what my public service will look like in the future, but you can be assured this will not be the last time you've heard from me. I will continue to fight for clean water, good schools, and affordable healthcare for our community.
Thanks, again, for your support--you'll never know just how much I appreciate it. -Bill
